Welcome to Term Two!

Welcome to Term Two!

Mrs Mills and Mrs Parkes have had a wonderful break spending time with our families and planning ahead for term two over the last two weeks.  We can't wait to hear what you have all been up to as well!

Just some reminders for all:

Helping your child with their learning:
We really encourage our learners to enjoy their afternoons with sporting, cultural and creative interests.  However, we do have parents ask us what they can do to help their children with their learning at home.
* Spelling lists are created each Monday - we would love parent support for your child to learn these words.
Reading books come home daily for some learners in Te Pihinga.  Some learners are actively encouraged to choose their own book to read - 20 minutes per night is a good amount of time. Speak to your child about whether they are given a book or have to choose a book. Your children are beginning to read for enjoyment not just out loud to an adult so reading aloud to an adult is not a daily expectation.
* Maths skills are essential to everyday life.  Knowing the basic facts to 10 and 20 and then onto 100 in both addition and subtraction are great skills to practise at home.  Also talking about numbers before and after another  eg:  before 107 is 106  after 99 is 100.
This term our WIT (Wildly Important Task) will be based on our learners creating toys.  More information for this will be shared on our online classroom soon.
Term Two is a busy term of learning and we can't wait to get started.
It would be wonderful for parents to encourage your child to walk into class by themselves and to meet their parents at the gate this term.

Remember Mrs Mills and Mrs Parkes can be contacted on our emails and are happy to answer any queries you have.

A Special Guest Speaker to Te Pihinga

Thomas Boniface

Last week we welcomed Thomas Boniface into our hub.  Thomas is a New Zealand champion racing car and mini car driver.  He talked to us about his achievements and he shared the importance of setting goals, working hard, training and never giving up.

We were amazed at the trophies and the flash gear he has to wear to protect him when he is racing.  William was lucky enough to spend extra time with Thomas as they share a similar passion.
