Half Way Through Term Two!

Week 5 of Term 2

We had really successful Student Led Conferences last week.
Thanks so much to all of you who came along to share your child's learning with them.  We were super proud of how they all shared their learning and the enthusiasm they all had about what they do each day.

Just a few reminders about home learning.

The activities on the online classroom
(Math Mahi, Te Ao Maths and the Literacy slides)
are for in class learning.
We have plenty of websites your child can access on our class blog to work on basic skills.
We also have Home Readers, Spelling and every now and then a Minecraft activity to complete after school.

Your children know the answers to the following questions - so don't be afraid to ask them!

Show me your home reader... or explain to me the teachers' expectations.

Where is your notebook and why are these words listed in here?
What day do we go to library to change our books in Te Pihinga?

Why does your notebook need to go home every night and back to school every day in your bookbag?

Student Led Conferences Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 May.

Student Led Conferences are this week.
(Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th May)
They are
NOT
parent/teacher interviews.

They are an opportunity for your child to show you
How they learn.
Where they access their learning from.
What they are proud of and why this particular learning makes them proud.

Your children are 7 and 8 years old.
They will be nervous about sharing their learning.
You will need to ask them questions.
Ask them questions that will help them explain to you what the task was all about, that they are showing you.

Most of all, enjoy celebrating your child's success in their learning journey so far!

Schools all around NZ have Student Led Conferences
Click on the dark blue links below to read why they are a beneficial way for your child to share their learning with you.

Wildly ImportantTasks

If you wish to speak to your child's teachers about their academic or social progress you will need to email them and make a separate meeting at a time that suits all parties.
Kind Regards.
Wendy and Bonnie.

Bengal Tiger Art

Bengal Tigers

These learners chose to create Bengal Tiger artworks.  Following a process and focusing on the task each of these tiger pictures is different and unique.

Come in and check them out!  They are on display in Te Pihinga.

Tapa Cloths

The other option was to create a collaborative Tapa Cloth to acknowledge the Pasikifa cultures within our hub whanau.  These learners also followed a process and focused on the task to tell their own story.

Come in and check out our tapa cloth!  They are on display in Te Pihinga.

Welcome to Term Two!

We had the most wonderful day with our Te Pihinga learners today.

They all came to school smiling and eager to learn - a true sign that they had a fabulous break to recharge and feel fresh for learning.

Just to fill the whanau in on what we discussed today:

SPELLING: Each monday your child is responsible for bringing home a list of 5 words to learn.
READING: Some children will bring home a book from school to read daily.  Some children are expected to read a book of their choosing for at least 20 minutes each evening - ask your child what they are expected to do.
WIT: Today the groups had another chat to remind themselves of what they are needing to bring to school to create their White Bengal Tiger Enclosure. Your child should have bought a list home.  We are planning to start building our enclosures this WEDNESDAY.

Please Note: If you did not pay your activity fee at the start of the year we do require payment for your child's trip to Pouakai Zoo.  The cost of the trip was $10.00 and this is payable to Robyn at the office please.  This covers entry to the zoo and the bus.
Thanks.

Remember our doors are always open - come in anytime and see your child learning.
